Color Psychology

Color is symbolism. We say someone who is jealous is "Green with envy". Someone who is sad is said to be "Blue". When we are angry, we see "red". Colors affect us psychologically. They can stimulate our appetite or suppress it. They can make us happy, excited, angry or sad. Let's take a look at colors and what they mean to your visitors.

Color Positive Negative
Red Red symbolizes passion, love, danger, heat, power, strength. It stimulates the appetite, by increasing metabolism. Danger, fire, blood, war, violence. Consider color-blind users - red/green color blindness is the most common.
Pink Pink is romantic, calming and feminine. Naivety, weakness.
Orange Vibrant, warm, cosy and autumnal. Orange has been a very in vogue color for web sites. It stimulates the appetite and symbolize health. Attention-seeking
Yellow Sunshine, happiness, growth, gold and "newness". Dishonesty, cowardice, betrayal, jealousy, deceit, weakness/illness, and hazard.
Green Green signifies nature, the environment, life, growth, good luck, youth, spring, fertility, religion. Also symbolizes jealousy/inexperience, envy and misfortune. Considered bad when used for packaging.
Blue Calm, peaceful, water, sky, harmony, therapeutic, trust, confidence, cleanliness and loyalty. Gives people energy. Safe color to use in design. Sadness, cold, depression, suppresses the appetite.
Purple Royalty, richness, creativity, spirituality, passion and love. Cruelty, arrogance, mourning.
Brown Brown is neutral, earthy, outdoors, warm. It represents credibility and stability, the hearth, home and the earth. Dirty, dull.
Grey Modern, intelligent, solid, clean, security, maturity and reliability. Old age, sadness, boring, dull.
White Cleanliness, innocence, space, purity, chastity, simplicity, peace, winter/snow, goodness, marriage/virginal. Death (in Eastern cultures), cold, clinical, sterile.
Black Power, elegance, magic, mystery, night, sophistication, solid and powerful. Death (in Western cultures), witches (black magic), fear, evil, anonymity, unhappiness, sadness, remorse, anger, mourning, death (Western cultures).
